Now, here’s a story about one small ā€œyesā€ that turned into something unforgettable—and exactly why this book exists.

The Power of Saying Yes (2 min read)

Late last year, I got invited to Hawaii.

It wasn’t one of those ā€œmaybe somedayā€ invites.
We actually made the plan. I booked the flights. Everything was lined up.

I had said yes.

And then… the trip fell through.

No tropical views. No adventure. Just a canceled itinerary and that familiar phrase in my head:
ā€œMaybe next time.ā€

Fast forward to March.

I get another message—this time from a different friend:

I’d love to tell you I jumped at the chance.

But I didn’t. I almost didn’t go.

My schedule was already overflowing.
Running a business. Writing a book.
Trips to LA and Florida were already on the calendar.
A missions trip coming up in June.
It wasn’t the right time.

But I’ve learned something over the last few years:
Perfect timing is a myth. But the right yes can change everything.

So I booked the flight.

Not because I had space for it. but because how many times do you have TWO friends invite you to hawaii in the same year? (it’s never happened before)

And that decision led to one of the most life-giving weekends I’ve had in a long time.

Hiking lava cliffs.
feeling like a kid while I was running across volcanic rock, do back flips and front flips on the beach. I LOVE THIS.
Reading Zoro’s book soar on the beach.
Tasting award winning vegan ice cream.
Black sand beaches. Red sand beaches. Moments that felt like magic.

I made great progress editing the book on the plane and in the hotel room.

But none of those things were the best part.

The highlight?

A two-hour car ride.
With Victor, who invited me.
And Miguel, a new friend I didn’t expect to meet.

We talked about our favorite movies. How stories and music are the only two things humans remember. We talked about my book, and his favorite movies. (all in spanish BTW) which was quite a fun challenge. My first time explaining Just start. Empezar Hoy in spanish.
It was unplanned. Honest. Simple. And unforgettable.

And it reminded me of something I’ve been learning over and over:

People make the place.

Yes, Hawaii was stunning. But it wasn’t the ocean or the cliffs that changed me.
It was the invitation.
It was the conversation.
It was saying yes—again.

And I think that’s what most of us need more of.
Not a perfect plan. Not more clarity.
Just the courage to say yes when it matters.

So here’s your invitation:

Say yes to the thing you’ve been putting off.
The text you haven’t sent. The idea you haven’t launched. The trip you’ve delayed.
Not because the timing is perfect. But because the story is worth it.

And if you’ve ever wanted to write a better story with your life.
I wrote Just Start for you.

Hope to see you June 4th.
